Abrasive Blasting

GVS employs and trains industry professional tradespersons and NACE qualified inspectors to install quality protective coating systems. GVS remain at the forefront of technology and are adept at the selection and application of high performance coating systems and specialist wear resistant coatings from our dedicated abrasive blast and painting factory in Jubail, KSA, to being fully mobile and self-sufficient on remote sites, GVS has a long history of delivering above clients expectations.


Our areas of expertise are;

Dry abrasive blasting commonly known as ” Dry sandblasting” or “Dry Blast” is the operation of forcibly propelling a

stream of dry abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth

surface, shape a surface, or remove surface coatings. Dry abrasives are commonly garnet based.


Wet abrasive blasting commonly known as ” Wet abrasive sandblasting”, or “Slurry Blasting” or “wet slurry blasting”  is

the operation of forcibly propelling a stream of wet  abrasive material , a “slurry” mix, commonly garnet based with the

addition of low amounts of water, against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth

surface, shape a surface, or remove surface coatings.


The benefits of Wet Abrasive blasting:

•  Minimal dust,  as the water reduces dust levels

•  Minimal water usage, as the water is used as a minimal abrasive coating , not as the abrasive itself, surfaces are

left clean ready for application of coatings

GVS Wet Abrasive blasting system is a variable input low pressure wet abrasive blasting system

with low abrasive consumption and low water consumption.  Our technology :


•  Mobile units – multiple Trailer based Compressor Units from 172 CFM to 185 CFM

•  Variable pressure  from 25 psi to 110 psi dependant on the surface and substrate requirements

•  Variable media – 5 different grades of media / blasting aggregate used dependant on the

surface and substrate requirements

Hydro Blasting


Hydro blasting is a technique for cleaning, which relies entirely on the energy of water striking a surface to achieve its cleaning

effect. Abrasives are NOT used in hydro blasting systems. Cosurfacesnsequently the problems caused by dust pollution and by the disposal of spent abrasives are eliminated. Two different hydro blasting operating pressures are commonly encountered.


•  High pressure hydro blasting, operating at pressures between 690 bar (10,000p.s.i.) and 1700 bar (25,000 p.s.i.)

•  Ultra high pressure hydro blasting, operating at pressures above 1700 bar (25,000p.s.i.)


The terms hydro blasting, hydro jetting and water jetting essentially mean the same thing with all being used to describe the same process. There can be confusion however over the difference between simple water washing and hydro blasting. To clarify the situation, GVS haveadopted the following commonly accepted definitions.


•  Low Pressure Water Washing Operates at pressures less than 69 bar (1,000 p.s.i.)

•  High Pressure Water Washing Operates at pressures between 69-690 bar (1,000 - 10,000 p.s.i.).

•  High Pressure Hydro blasting Operates at pressures between 690-1700 bar (10,000 - 25,000 p.s.i.)

•  Ultra High Pressure Hydro blasting Operates at pressures above 1700 bar (25,000 p.s.i.) with most

    machines operating in the 2000 - 2500 bar range (30,000 - 36,000 p.s.i.)


Painting and Coating Services


Paint is the most commonly used material to protect steel. Paint systems for steel structures have developed

over the years to comply with industrial environmental standards and in response to demands from bridge and building owners for improved durability and performance.


GVS has the latest formulations and have focused on application in even fewer numbers of coats, but with increasing

individual film thickness. Examples of this are epoxy and polyester glass flake coatings that are designed for

high build thickness in one or two coat applications, and single coat high build elastomeric urethane coatings, up

to 1000μm thick.


Modern specifications usually comprise a sequential coating application of paints or alternatively paints applied over metal coatings to form coating system. The protective paint systems usually consist of primer, undercoat(s) and finish coats. Each coating ‘layer’ in any protective system has a specific function, and the different types are applied in a particular sequence of primer followed by intermediate

/ build coats in the shop, and finally the finish or top coat either in the shop or on site.
